Discord welcome bot for messages, auto-roles and verification

Greet new members in the right channel, give them a starting role, and test the experience before your community sees it.

Create your bot

What the Welcome & Goodbye module does

Welcome & Goodbye posts a custom greeting when a member joins and can send a separate private welcome message. In the same server settings, you can choose an auto-role and optionally require a math captcha before the configured starter role is assigned. It can also post a goodbye message when a member leaves. These settings are per server, so one hosted bot can use different channels and messages in different communities.

The module is included on the Free plan. Free includes one hosted bot; Pro-only modules require Pro, but Welcome & Goodbye itself does not need Pro.

Set up welcome messages in three steps

1. Enable the module

Open your bot, choose Modules, turn on Welcome & Goodbye, then select the Discord server you are configuring.

2. Choose channels and text

In Channels, select one shared destination or separate welcome and goodbye channels. In Messages, enable the greeting and write its text.

3. Add onboarding controls

In Automation, select an auto-role or enable captcha. Save the server settings before testing.

Use !testwelcome to send a real test greeting with the saved settings. The person running that preview needs Manage Server. If no greeting appears for a real join, check that the bot can view the channel, send messages and embed links, then enable Server Members Intent in the Discord Developer Portal.

Welcome bot FAQ

Is the Discord welcome bot free?

Yes. Welcome & Goodbye is a Free module and can run on the Free plan’s one hosted bot.

Can the bot assign a role automatically?

Yes. Choose an auto-role in the module’s Automation settings. The bot needs Manage Roles and its role must sit above the role it assigns.

What changes when captcha is enabled?

The member completes the math challenge before the configured starter role is assigned; it replaces the normal join-time auto-role path.
